How much money do you need to immigrate to Canada?2021-08-06T08:13:57+00:00

Before immigrating to Canada, you need to show that you have a minimum amount of settlement funds. The funds required per person are at least $12,960 (CDN). The funds required for each additional dependent are $3,492 (CDN). These amounts are set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

In addition to this, it will also be helpful if you have money beyond the minimum funds that are required by IRCC. This is because additional money will provide you with greater financial ease when settling in Canada. Factors such as where in Canada you plan to live and family size can be considered when determining your additional funds.

Is PNP better or Express Entry?2021-08-06T08:13:11+00:00

An important thing to consider when trying to decide between PNP and Express Entry is that most PNP programs require a specific connection between the applicant and the region. For example, it is advisable to consider a PNP program if you are studying or working in a Canadian province. However, if you do not have any specific links to a location in Canada, your best option is most likely to be Express Entry.

Which PNP is best?2021-08-06T08:12:13+00:00

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are operated in Canadian territories and provinces, with the exception of Nunavut and Quebec. The criteria for selecting eligible foreign workers for permanent residence under each PNP is set differently according to each province. There are approximately 80 different PNP streams, so attempting to decide which one works best can tend to be complicated.

Nevertheless, taking into account factors such as minimal work experience, it can be said that Ontario Human Capital Priorities is one of the best PNPs. This is because job offers are not required for the application process. However, you will still need to have an Express Entry profile to be invited to apply to this particular stream.

How do I qualify for Canadian Express Entry?2021-08-06T08:11:23+00:00

The candidates who qualify for Canadian Express Entry are those with college or university degrees as well as experience with skilled work and moderate proficiency in English and/or French. These are the minimum requirements for Express Entry.

However, simply meeting this set of criteria will not guarantee you an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Candidates who showcase comparatively stronger profiles will be more successful than those who simply meet the basic requirements. For example, the ideal Express Entry candidate would hold at least two Bachelor’s degrees or a Master’s degree, be able to demonstrate moderate to high English and/or French language expertise with a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of level eight or higher and have at least three years of experience with skilled work.

In addition to this, your sponsor must live in Canada unless they are a Canadian citizen who lives abroad and plans to return to Canada when you immigrate and are sponsoring either a spouse, common-law, conjugal partner or dependent children who have no dependent children.

What is the age limit for immigration to Canada?2021-08-06T08:08:53+00:00

There are no specific age limit requirements for any of the Canadian immigration programs. However, it is important to note that individuals between the ages of 25 and 35 are generally awarded the highest points in most of the economic immigration categories. Nevertheless, that does not mean that applicants of older ages cannot be selected.

How do I raise my CRS score?2021-08-06T08:07:35+00:00

There are several ways in which you can improve your CRS score. One of the quickest and most efficient ways of boosting your score is to improve your language test scores. You can either do this by retaking your original language test, or by learning a second language. For instance, if you are already fluent in English, you could earn an extra 24 points for second language skills, simply by learning French.

You could also complete another qualification. This will enable you to score more human capital points, as well as more skills transferability points.

A further list of options to raise your CRS score may be obtained here.

How does the comprehensive ranking system work?2021-08-06T08:06:06+00:00

The comprehensive ranking system is used by the Express Entry immigration system to rank individuals from the candidate pool who are qualified to immigrate to Canada. There are three programs under Express Entry: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and

Canadian Experience Class. Individuals must first be eligible under one of these programs before being assigned a Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS), which is awarded out of 1200 points.

The Canadian government regulates an Express Entry draw approximately every two weeks. This draw is where a round of Invitation to Apply (ITAs) are issued for permanent residence to the candidates who rank the highest. CRS points consist of a core set and an additional set both of which can go up to 600 points, thereby adding up to a total score of 1200 points. The core set of points are awarded based on core/human capital factors, spouse/common-law factors and skill transferability factors. A detailed outline of the Ranking System criteria may be obtained here.

What is a good CRS score?2021-08-06T08:04:49+00:00

CRS scores are awarded out of 1200 points to any individual who submits a profile to the Express Entry candidate pool.  To get an ITA you will have to secure a score that is identical to the CRS cut-off score or higher. The cut-off score is released every two weeks after the Express Entry draws have occurred. This score varies for every draw and is based on the CRS scores obtained by the people in your draw pool. The CRS cut-off score, therefore, shares a positive correlation with the average of the draw pool cut-off scores.

The cut-off score dropped from 431 in June 2020, to 357 in June 2021. Therefore, anything over 470 CRS points is considered to be a good score. However, it is important to remember that this does not guarantee that you will receive an ITA because this depends on your draw pool’s cut-off score.
